The contest "winner"

Superwhamodyne -
the final version
The sealed tower cabinet design was perceived as lacking upper bass (although now I think it was complicated by the bandpass subwoofer woofer being somewhat more sensitive than the tower), so the tower cabinet was converted to a vented cabinet to augment this region. This design was called "good enough" and the 3/4" MDF cabinets were finished, in natural ash, cork, and black lacquered hemlock trim.
This design was published in May 1996 VALVE as well as the Italian audio magazine Audion, issue #7.
This was the speaker which was intended to be entered in the aforementioned contest. The contest was cancelled, but development of the speaker continued.
Different crossover points were tried for the tweeter, and many ears felt a 6 mfd capacitor gave a more present sound.
These would work very well with the ParaS.E.X. kit

some reader's Whamos
The Superwhamodyne is the most often copied version of the Whamodyne series, largely because it was the only design published in full detail more or less in one article. The positive response of the many builders around the world fueled further developments.
Here are pics of a couple of versions constructed by VALVE readers

Above: a pair constructed by Robin Watson, of Tokyo. These are being run with original S.E.X. amps, a marginal 2W power situation which has since been solved with the introduction of the 5W ParaS.E.X.

Left: a pair constructed by Jim Flowers of Texas. Note the rounded corners, round vent holes, and cool "ball " feet.
